When is it okay to take a break from your writing?

Everyone experiences many ups and downs in their life and some of these experiences can hinder the writing process. But when is it okay to take a break? You've probably heard time and time again that you should be writing every day but there are certain times in our lives when we need to stop for a second... Or a day or two. When we feel tired, stressed or under the weather, it can feel like the perfect excuse to stop writing but these excuses are there to only encourage us to stop writing altogether. After work, after a big day or after the household has gone to bed is usually when we start to feel it's time for us to wind-down too but that's the perfect time to write! Don't become overwhelmed though, there are some reasons why we should be taking breaks from our writing. If you've ever experienced burn out you'll know that you'll need a break if you've jumped headfirst into writing, creating various platforms, learning all that you can as well as keeping up your job performance at work (you know, that thing that actually pays you), and having a social life can lead to burning out.

I've experienced that this week. I jumped headfirst into creating a YouTube Channel and building this Author website and a twitter, Instagram and Facebook page as well as having a goal of writing 2000 words a day. It worked really well for the first two weeks but this week I needed time to gather myself. It was a lot harder than I thought to have such a big writing goal. This week I've been resting my tired brain while learning as much as I can about the writing process and seeing how I can pace myself but still reach my goal of completing my first draft by the end of December. I've decided I will now take weekends off writing and spend those two days focussing on my social media and my newly created YouTube channel.
