To build confidence we first need to label what it is we are not confident doing. Is it simply showing your work to anyone? Maybe it's to strangers or friends that you don't want to show your writing to.

Do I have a secret for you: No one is perfect, everyone has something they need to work on. If you make a mistake, that's okay.

Here are the 5 best ways to build your confidence:

1) Label your fear and call it what it is: Your fear. Not reality. Your fear.

2) Make a list of your fears. Scale them from 1 to 10. 1 being the least scary and 10 being the most.

3) Practice what is on your list. Start by facing the fear you wrote for number 1. Keep facing this fear until it seems manageable and you are no longer afraid. Then more on to fear number 2.

4) Know that everyone is going through this with you. I have my own list of fears to conquer before I reach the Beta Reading stage in the editing process. And everyday I work to conquer my fears.

5) If you stop facing your fears you are only encouraging the fear to take hold in your brain. Fight back and you will win.
