You've spent months on this draft, you poured your heart and soul into this. You can't wait until you are done and can start showing off your amazing talent. But when you reread the story you just created there are so many things wrong with it! The writing doesn't make sense, the plot doesn't exist and the characters could be cardboard cut-outs! Your life is ruined! You had planned to be an author but how are you going to do that when you can't even write? I'll let you in on a little secret; First drafts are meant to suck. They are the first time your story hits the page, they are for you to get all of your ideas out of your brain and onto the page. Names for this stage are: Brain dump, Word Vomit Draft, and First Draft. After you've finished the first draft you are able to go over your story and review what worked well and what didn't. You're also able to see where you need to further your research, whether it's developing backstories to your characters or rejigging your story. First drafts are meant to suck so your second draft doesn't (as much).
